Frogs, Mazes, and Almost Free Ice Cream: Our Weekend in Chatham, NY
By: Two City Kids Who Went Wild Upstate šøš½š¦
This weekend, Mom and Dad planned something super cool ā a trip upstate to stay at our friendās place, which we call āthe treehouse.ā (Itās not technically a treehouse, but itās surrounded by woods and super high up ā so it totally feels like one!)
It was only a two-hour drive from NYC and we ended up in Chatham, New York, ready to explore nature, search for frogs, and attempt one of the hardest corn mazes EVER.
Frog Hunting at Schorās Conservation Area šø
First stop: Schorās Conservation Area. It was super quiet and peaceful ā not like Central Park where you hear cars and sirens. We were on the hunt for frogs, and after a little searching by the pond, we spotted a few hopping around!
We didnāt catch any (theyāre fast!), but we had a great time running the trails and looking under rocks and logs. If youāre ever in the area and want a quick, fun hike with kids, Schorās is perfect.
The Corn Maze at Samascottās Garden Market š½
Next up: the famous corn maze at Samascottās Garden Market. This wasnāt just any corn maze ā it was HUGE, and actually kind of tricky! š
The challenge? There are 8 hidden stations inside the maze. If you find them all and stamp your card at each one, you get a free ice cream (which, letās be real, was the main reason we were in it to win it).
After like an hour of zig-zagging, map-checking, and a few accidental circles, we collected 5 out of 8 stamps. We were SO close but decided to call it and head for snacks instead. Maybe next year weāll go for all 8!
Final Thoughts: Fresh Air, Frogs, and Future Maze Goals
Even though we didnāt win the ice cream, this trip was awesome. Between the woods, the frog hunt, and the corn maze challenge, it was a perfect weekend getaway from NYC.
Plus, who doesnāt want to tell their friends they spent the weekend in a ātreehouseā? š
See you next year, corn maze⦠weāre coming for all 8 stamps!
