Easy Hike, Happy Pup: A Quick Escape to Palisades Interstate Park! 🥾🐶🌳

By: Two City Kids + One Adventure-Loving Dog

After a big hiking day up at Breakneck Ridge, Mom and Dad were looking for something closer to home — and still dog-friendly. That’s how we ended up at Palisades Interstate Park, just a quick drive from New York City.

It turned out to be the perfect low-key outing. Short, scenic, and full of happy dogs — including ours!

Start with a Climb, Then Cruise Along 🥾

We picked a 2.4-mile loop trail, which started off with a little uphill stretch (just enough to get your legs moving) but leveled out pretty quickly. After that, it was mostly flat and easy — even Nacho didn’t need a break.

It was just enough of a challenge to feel like a hike but totally doable for kids and pups. Plus, the path wasn’t crowded, and the views of the trees and cliffs made us forget we were still near the city.

Nacho’s Dog Dream Trail 🐾

We made sure it was dog-friendly before we left — and Nacho was SO glad we did. There were tons of other dogs on the trail, all leashed and super friendly. Every time he saw a new tail wagging ahead, he got hyped like he was on a doggy playdate hike.

There were a few shady spots to rest and even some rocky areas where we stopped for a snack break. (Nacho got a few extra treats… no surprise there.)

Final Thoughts: Close, Calm, and Worth It

Palisades Interstate Park might not be the most epic hike, but for a quick escape from NYC, it totally works. It’s close, pet-friendly, easy for families, and just long enough to feel like you did something outdoorsy.

Next time we’re packing a picnic and staying longer — and of course, bringing Nacho again!
